The government is launching a new Emergency Alerts system this summer, which will warn people on their mobile phone or tablet if there’s a danger to life nearby, such as severe flooding, fires, public health emergencies or a terror attack and will include advice about how to stay safe. Councils are encouraged to raise awareness of the initiative through their communication channels ahead of the national launch
